There was a time when news relevant stories came from the mouths we trusted. Those who brought us the news, did it in a factual, tasteful, and most importantly, moral and ethical manner (At least for the most part. I know Journalism has had its flaws…Thanks Jayson Blair).
But not today.
Today, every big mouth who has a computer has the right to blurt anything they want and call it news thanks to the worldwide web. Whether it’s fact or fiction, if it’s juicy, it’s posted. This thoughtless way of conducting a media outlet is pathetic to say the least.
What caused me to write about sad media situation is the stories and videos of poor Maia Campbell, former actress from 90’s sitcom In the House going around. The nude photos, videos of her singing on crack have been circulating for a while but lately more so than ever. The more people exploit her unfortunate situation, the more I become sick to my stomach.
With all the competing blogs trying to top their readership, I’m not surprised that this ordeal has become popular search amongst web surfers. Hell I even searched. But what got my nerves going is among all the sensationalism going on, not one blog post I viewed discussing her current dilemma even hinted of her possible, almost certain disorder, Bipolar Disorder.
NOT ONE.
This disorder, if true, may very well justify her actions lately. That coupled with the passing of her mother, estranged or not, and the possibility of her not treating this disorder could have helped her down the road she is headed today.
But who cares I guess. That fact may ruin the reason why the video was posted.
Now is that the real reason why Maia Campbell is the way she is after a promising future as an actress? Maybe not.
Does she really have Bipolar Disorder?
Can’t be positive but my sources are reliable.
It is a valid reason though. A reason nobody bothered to mention when they decided to plant her face on every gossip blogspot known to the internet world. Her condition could be read everywhere. People can find the dirty videos but go blind to actual relevant facts.
It’s easy to just post something just to draw attention to a blog post wasting space, but to me you’re just lying to yourself and your readers. Anybody can gossip and post shallow, tasteless filth. But a real writer dares to swim in the deep end and gets the real story before running their mouth.
I’m not writing this for readership. I’m writing to put sites like Bump Shack and Mediatakeout, on blast for continuing exploiting someone who they either know nothing about, or chooses information that will get them hits on their page.
